Mike Ryan Sets New Pikes Peak Record!
Mike Ryan sets new Pikes Peak record with his DEI, CryO2 equipped Freightliner!
We set our 7th record yesterday at the 90th running of the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb with a time of 12:38, eclipsing our previous 2006 record in our old truck by 5 seconds. This new record included a loss of nearly 40 seconds from loosing my brakes and spinning the truck out in the second left hand switchback of the "W's" and backing into and tearing up the guardrail. Once underway from there, running with severely faded brakes, we ran the remaining three and a half miles to the summit cautiously and to top it off, the last two miles of that was in the rain. It is safe to say that I lost a good minute.
Bob Ball and the folks at Detroit Diesel have built us an engine that is amazing. The support of Freightliner, Michelin Tire, ZF Transmissions, Detroit Diesel, BD Turbo, Borg warner, DEI, Cry o2, Fluidyne, Flowmaster, Aurora Bearing, Braille Batteries, Detroit Locker, and Go15 made us the fastest big truck ever on Pikes Peak for the thirteenth time in 15 tries.
Thanks to each and everyone of you,
