Race In Review: The 2012 NHRA Spectacle of Speed at Lucas Oil Raceway (Indianapolis, Indiana)

Our 2012 race season is off to a great start.  We are leaving Lucas Oil Raceway with our DEI / Ny-Trex Nitrous Oxide Systems dragster sitting in the Top Ten in NHRA Top Dragster points, and a combination that could likely win us a NHRA season championship in 2012.

Martino Motorsports’ video highlights from the NHRA Spectacle of Speed at Lucas Oil Raceway:

We qualified 12th (out of 37 dragsters in our class) for the event with a career best e.t. of 6.61 at 204 MPH on a mild two stage Ny-Trex Nitrous Oxide Systems tune-up.

Good Afternoon!

Checking in with a race weekend recap. #7 Charlie Schultz started the feature line up in 6th place, finished 3rd and #77 Tim Ice started 12th and finished 8th. Charlie quickly moved to the front and dominated the race until about five laps to go and then it was a nail biter as the #49 DJ Shullick and him battled it out.  The following is the “official” racing recap.

Dave Shullick Jr. made a sweeping pass on then leader Charlie Schultz with just two laps to go to grab the 30 lap Midwest Supermodified Association (MSA) presented by Town Money Saver 2012 opening season feature race at Sandusky (OH) Speedway Saturday night. For Shullick Jr. this was his career 20th MSA victory and it came on a night when he was celebrating his Father Dave Shullick Sr.’s birthday. Getting to the front was a task in itself, but getting past a very fast and determined Schultz, Shullick Jr. had his work cut out for him.

Russell Morseman Racing UpdateWe rained out last weekend. This weekend was cold but clear skies. I drew 49 out of 50 once again a bad draw. I started last in my heat and made it up to 5th which was the last qualifying position. I started 18th in the feature and had made it up to 7th on lap 14. The caution came out and on the restart I had a opening to go for 4th and when I went low the 5th place guy spun into the side of me and put me through the infield and bent my front radius rods and steering arm. I ended up 18th on the night. Hopefully my luck will change for next weekend and I will start the night off with a better draw.

Dan Guyer of TG Rock Racing sent in this great video from his win in the Line Mountain race at Rausch Creek on April 28th. Dan and his 4Wheeler took first place out of a field of 104 trucks!
