NHRA Jeg's SuperQuick Event Wrap-up

Martino Motorsports - NHRA Jeg's SuperQuick Event Wrap-upThe night before our trip to the NHRA Jeg’s SuperQuick Series event at Pacemaker’s Dragway, we took “our crew” to see The Crue (Motley Crue) + Poison, who brought their 2011 anniversary tour to our hometown for the evening.

It was great to take a break from all the hard work spent on the dragster over the past few weeks to enjoy the show.  Although the concert left our ears ringing until late next evening, it was well worth it.  Poison (celebrating 25 years together) and Motley Crue (celebrating 30 years together) didn’t let their age show.  Both acts had the sold-out crowd cheering on their feet the entire show.

Motley Crue closed the concert with “Kickstart My Heart”, one of the top ranked drag racing anthems of all time (also a great way to “kickstart” our road trip to Pacemaker’s Dragway immediately thereafter).

Special thanks to Brent, Sami, and the rest of the first-class staff at Club Gossip for the invite and accommodating us at the official concert after party with Vince Neil.  Vince packed the place and showed Youngstown some serious love.

Thanks to Eric Ryan as well for bringing two rock legends to the Youngstown area for an evening of high quality entertainment for our community.

NHRA Jeg’s SuperQuick Event

For the first time this season, we made it through an event without rain.  We were able to keep our new Smith Optics “Evolve” sunglasses on the entire race and not worry about chasing rain drops.

We qualified in the top half of the 32 car field for the event which gave us lane choice throughout eliminations.  In qualifying and early in eliminations, our dragster was working flawless.  Our dragster was very consistent and our reaction times were near perfect each pass.  Unfortunately we ran into mechanical problems deep in eliminations - we had the other dragster covered on the starting line (a .011 reaction time to to the other driver’s .071 reaction time) and were incrementally dead on our dial-in down the track until we experienced said problems close to the finish line.  This was a tough loss for us after such a great day of racing, but we were able to diagnose said issues after the run and thankfully it wasn't anything too serious.

We should be back on the track “healthy” for the next event on our 2011 schedule - Asphalt Wars at Thompson Raceway Park, Thompson, OH (August 20, 2011).

Special thanks to Mac and Chris Sherrill for all of the great photos of the dragster from the event.

Next Event

With the strong help and support of our fine list of associates, we are able to get our DEI / Ny-Trex dragster back together in a week to prepare for our next event: Asphalt Wars at Thompson Raceway Park, Thompson, OH (a Quick 8 “run-what-you-brung” 1/8th mile outlaw shoot-out) - August 20, 2011.

Event Information:  http://www.thompsonracewaypark.com/

For the event we will be introducing our second stage of Ny-Trex Nitrous to our engine combination.  We aren’t going to be shy in giving the series regulars a rough time on the track.  The staff at Ny-Trex has us dialed in on what numbers to run with both Ny-Trex nitrous systems and Mac Sherrill has adjusted our dragster chassis to handle the large amounts of power we will be attempting to put to the ground.  We look to produce career best 1/8 mile times at the event and hopefully be a contender at the end of the event for the big win.

This one-day event is well worth attending.  We get two qualifying attempts at 12:00 PM and 2:00 PM.  First round of eliminations will start at 4:00 PM.  Some of the best dragsters and door-cars on the NHRA, ADRL, and IHRA circuits will be present for the event battling for the top 8 spots on each side (door-cars and dragsters).

See you in Thompson...
