Martino Updates on August

Martino Motorsports' New EngineWe’ve been pretty busy here at Martino Motorsports since our last correspondence.

We’ve competed in four events, the NHRA Lucas Oil Series Event at National Trails Raceway - Columbus, Ohio (July 23-25); the IHRA Summit Racing Equipment Double Divisional / Tournament of Champions Qualifier at Pittsburgh Raceway Park - Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania (August 6-8); and the Night Under Fire G.A.S. Quick 16 event at Quaker City Raceway - Salem, Ohio (August 14), and finally took delivery of our brand new 640 cubic inch motor.

NHRA Lucas Oil Series Event at National Trails Raceway - Columbus, Ohio (July 23-25)
We went with our .36 / .41 Ny-Trex Nitrous Oxide Systems tune-up for the event.  We ran our nitrous timers .20 seconds on in to the run for 6.00 seconds, and qualified 16th after our first qualifying session with a 6.914 at 191.61 MPH in 4223 foot density altitude (one of the highest density altitudes we’ve seen in the last couple of seasons).

The event was plagued with many difficulties with the starting line tree, which bit us in our last qualifying session when we went -.023 red on the tree and first round when we went -.013 red on the tree.

The dragster ran strong and consistent all weekend long.  Even in 4000+ foot density altitude, our Ny-Trex Nitrous Oxide System still delivered strong numbers and remains very consistent pass after pass.  We are looking forward to making our return to Columbus in September with our soon to be delivered 640 cubic inch motor for the NHRA Jeg’s SportsNationals.

IHRA Summit Racing Equipment Double Divisional / Tournament of Champions Qualifier at Pittsburgh Raceway Park - Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania (August 6-8)
We ran the two-day 1/8th mile event on all motor.  In the first event we got down to 13 cars and lost in a double break out race to Dave Connolly.  We had him covered on the tree with a .002 light, but took too much of the finish line stripe at the other end.

In the second event, Ryan finally got to make his IHRA debut and ended up going three rounds.

It’s an awesome feeling both competing at the same event and both doing so well.  We look forward to trying this again soon.

Night Under Fire G.A.S. Quick 16 event at Quaker City Raceway - Salem, Ohio (August 14)
This event is one of the closest stops of the season for us.  We went with our .33 / .36 Ny-Trex Nitrous Oxide Systems tune-up for the event and ran the same set-up we ran at Xenia a few weeks ago (nitrous timers on at .20 seconds in to the run for 2.25 seconds).  We qualified third for the event with a 7.316 at 172.41 MPH in 4375 foot density altitude (even a higher density altitude than Columbus a few weeks ago).

We ran almost dead-on our dial in the first round of competition for the win, but as soon as they called us to the staging lanes for our second round, we had to rush back to the trailer as a large storm cell was quickly approaching.  Just as we got the dragster into the trailer we had a 45 minute wash out which led to the event promoters canceling the event.

We were disappointed in the rain fall because we knew we had a great shot of grabbing our first win of the season in front of the many friends and family members in attendance.

New Motor
It wasn't an easy effort, but after about 65 hours in the shop, we finally have the new 640 cubic inch motor in the dragster ready to test.  Special thanks to Jim Kolbrick and all of our many associates who made this possible in such a short period of time.

We started the project on Saturday (August 21) and by Friday afternoon (August 27) we had everything together and the motor running strong on the first spin of the starter.

We didn’t have time to dyno the motor, so we will be headed to Quaker City Raceway - Salem, Ohio next week to break the motor in.

Quaker City Raceway - Salem, Ohio (August 28) Test Session
We got to make a few break in passes with the new motor.  Our RacePak computer system showed that all of the engine vitals are running above and beyond their call of duty and are ready for some 1/4 mile nitrous passes next weekend.

Thanks to everyone for your continued support.  We look forward to hitting the road, laying down some strong numbers, and finally getting that first win of the season!
