Martino Columbus Wrap-up

Martino Motorsports - Columbus Wrap-UpThursday
Ryan made six passes in our DEI / Ny-Trex dragster to upgrade his NHRA + IHRA competition licenses to advanced e.t. status.  Special thanks to Chris Stilwell and the rest of the staff at National Trails Raceway for an excellent job of prepping the track for this test session.

Friday
We made our first qualifying pass for the event at 4:30 PM.  We faced probably the worst racing conditions we have ever encountered in over 40 years of racing.  Our Kestrel Weather Meter showed temperatures well over 100 degrees, a density altitude of 5000 ft, and over 150 water grains.  We were still able to get ahold of the track with the help of our Mickey Thompson Tires (www.mickeythompsontires.com) and run a 6.876 at 196.76 MPH to qualify us for the event.

Satuday
We made our last two scheduled qualifying sessions at 12:30 PM and 3:30 PM.  We faced even worse weather + track conditions than Friday and still ran a season best 6.816 at 199.64 in our first pass of the day and decided to go with a race day tune-up for our third qualifying session since we were qualified strong for the event.  The nitrous tune-up for our dragster (given to us by the engineers at Ny-Trex) is working great with our engine combination and shows a lot of potential for the remainder of the season.

Martino Motorsports - Columbus Wrap-UpSunday
Due to heavy thundershowers at the track late Saturday night and early Sunday morning, eliminations have been rescheduled for September 22, 2011.  The track developed issues from the 800 ft area in each lane through the shut down area with constant water seepage (a potentially very dangerous situation for any driver heading down the 1/4 mile).  We are qualified for the event and September 22, 2011 can’t come fast enough.  We have a great combination going into raceday and should be a major contender for the “Wally” on the 22nd.

Next Event
We have decided to head to the NHRA Jeg’s SuperQuick Event at Pacemaker’s Dragway (Mt. Vernon, OH) this upcoming weekend.  The SuperQuick series is an exciting series to compete in (great tracks, fans, and competitors).  We should be able to adjust our Ny-Trex nitrous tune-up to qualify strong for the event and be a major threat deep into eliminations on Saturday evening.

See you in Mt. Vernon...
