Charlie Shultz: 10 Years and Growing

Charlie Shultz and his #7 Car

It started innocently enough.  A young guy walked into Design Engineering's first location on Detroit Road in Avon, OH ten years ago, introduced himself as Charlie Schultz and commented, "I mentioned to a friend that needed some heat protection parts and he said there was a performance parts company well-hidden behind a Dairy Mart and that I should check it out”. What do you guys sell?"

Turns out this young guy was racing go karts in a big way with his sights on moving up to more competitive sprint car and modified racing. DEI was glad to step up and help by offering support to Charlie and as Charlie’s racing career continues to grow, DEI is still onboard to help Charlie and May Motorsports team owners David and Lori May.

Charlie has been racing for almost 20 years racing supermodifieds, sprint cars and continues his competitive kart racing during off seasons. Charlie used to be referred to as just another local driver but over the last few years, Schultz has shown and proven Charlie Shultz and his 7 Carin rather convincing fashion that he is one of the top ten supermodified pilots in the country.

In 2008, Schultz won three Midwest Supermodified Association (MSA) features at Lorain County Speedway (OH) and two more at Sandusky Speedway (OH). To top things off, Charlie notched his first ever ISMA win on Friday night's "Fast 40" Hy-Miler weekend at Sandusky. He followed that performance up with a second place run in the Hy-Miler Supernationals 100 the next night.

A big highlight of Charlie 2009 season came on August 1 by winning the "King of Wings 50" at Oswego Speedway (Oswego, NY) with Charlie's teammate Tim Ice finishing second. Schultz's year end credits included finishing number 2 in points in the competitive Midwest Supermodified Association while winning finishing in the top 3 in 12 races and finished with top 5 finishes in ten other races.

Finishing second in MSA points has only given Charlie the added incentive to top that this year.  We will keep you up to date with Charlie's 2010 racing campaign.  Stay tuned.

Follow Charlie throughout the 2010 season!
