Boom Mat Pro Builder Alan JohnsonBitten by the automotive bug at an early age while working in the family owned and run W-J Body Shop in Gadsden, Alabama. Alan Johnson decided to step away from the norm and opened Johnson’s Hot Rod Shop. The calling card for this new shop was the debut of a sanitary 1937 Ford Cabriolet at the 1993 NSRA Street Rod Nationals. From the moment the car rolled through the fairgrounds, the Pro’s Pick judges and magazine editors had all eyes focused on the soft yellow 37 Ford from Alabama. The car later went onto appear in many street rod enthusiast magazines which gave life to the new hot shop. Alan Johnson came to a pinnacle in the world of street rods...

On Saturday, August 4 from 1-2 p.m., Mike Zenone, DEI’s Business Development Manager, will conduct a seminar at the NSRA Street Rod Nationals, Plus on how to use thermal and acoustic products available through DEI and Boom Mat to improve and protect your street rod. The hour long seminar will focus on how their thermal products can be used to provide maximum protection of your engine, ignition, and fuel line components from direct or ambient heat or cold.  The seminar will also cover Boom Mat’s extensive line of acoustic products developed to improve interior sound quality by quieting your ride.  Zenone will be available briefly after the seminar to answer specific questions.

 


 

DEI Boom Mat Article in Fastest Street Cars MagazineWith over 550 horsepower, no air conditioning, and long tube headers, we knew heat and noise could make for a toasty time driving the streets of sunny California. After doing a bit of research we called up our friends at Design Engineering Inc. in order to try out their new line of insulation/sound deadener and ultra light carpet padding, named Boom Mat. The line of insulation and sound deadening materials include a mat that you “roll”, or press, on all your sheet metal panels, a spray on formula for the hard to reach areas and lightweight carpet padding. Boom Mat is specifically designed for automotive use and it serves two functions, to keep engine heat out and to reduce noise vibrations. While we don’t want our muscle cars to sound like a Prius humming down the road, we also don’t want to feel like the car is about to shake itself to pieces while sweating from every pore in our body...
